Join us for a morning of birding on the Hinsdale Setbacks. This stretch of the Connecticut River is one of the first places migrating birds show up each spring. It is not uncommon to see hundreds of yellow-rumped and palm warblers early in the spring, followed by a tremendous diversity of bird species all the way through migration.
Meet us at the North parking area Located Here (42.79421821895597, -72.51556135505831). We'll walk the rail trail looking and listening for birds. Flat trail suitable for most abilities. Easy return to the parking area for those needing to leave early. Heavy rain cancels this event.
Future Setback Walk Dates: May 9, May 16
Thursday May 7, 2025 - 7 AM - 9 AM (Rain Date May 8)

Join the Southeastern Vermont Audubon Society and the Vermont Land Trust as we look for migrating songbirds on this VLT property along the Whetstone Brook. Whetstone Woods has been the site of targeted introduced invasive species management and habitat restoration work aimed at restoring the habitat quality of this former agricultural land. We expect to see and hear a variety of migrating bird species, including Louisiana Waterthrush, Blue-headed Vireo, Black and White Warbler and Black-throated Green Warbler, just to name a few. Suitable for all levels of birders, including beginners! Guides will have extra binoculars on hand for those without. Start your morning with birdsong at BEEC! Join us in May for an early morning bird walk with Cory Ross of the Vermont Audubon Association and Daniel Dubie as we explore BEEC’s 60 wild acres in the heart of peak songbird breeding season. During this time, the landscape comes alive with color, movement, and sound. With warm weather, abundant habitat, and the arrival of warblers, thrushes, and tanagers, this is one of the most rewarding times of year to be outdoors.
As we move through mature hardwood and mixed forests, open fields, and transitional forest edges, we’ll listen for the full chorus of songs and observe active breeding behaviors as birds establish nests and raise young. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just beginning to tune in to spring migration and nesting activity, this guided walk offers a peaceful, immersive opportunity to deepen your connection to nature and sharpen your birding skills.
